Rachmat Kaimuddin

“It looks like a very great turnout, met a lot of friends. Also both in the panel as well as on the audience. I think this type of events is very good to also promote Indonesia, Indonesia, markets on multiple scenarios. I just spoke about the AV industry in Indonesia as well. So this is a great!”

Rachmat Kaimuddin
Prof. dr. Dante Saksono Harbuwono, Sp.PD., Ph.D.

“DealStreetAsia is a great platform to invite some investors to come into Indonesia for the healthcare system, we invited two kinds of important things, one is the startup model of healthcare. And the second one is biotechnology model surfaces in Indonesia. So hopefully the DealStreetAsia forum will be interested in having some investors come to Indonesia, thank you.”

Prof. Dr. Dante Saksono Harbuwono
eddi danusaputro

“Way beyond my expectations in terms of participants and the lineup of speakers and panelists, and so forth, if I may give any sort of positive feedback is, it’s good to meet people. Maybe the venue is a little bit too small, but it’s good because then we were forced to meet and mingle and network and exchange business cards and talk business and so forth. So continue DealStreetAsia… continue doing the good work.”

Eddi Danusaputro
Tanah Sullivan

“It looks like there’s a very diverse group of audience and participants and whatever, which means it’s been very fruitful, productive, holistic conversations taking place. In terms of the session programming, I think, I mean, obviously, we were part of the session that was covering ESG. So this is something that’s going to just become more and more important over time.

It’d be nice to see more and more of that kind of topics throughout, overall, I think it’s been a great summit and all the participants so far that I’ve met and spoken to have been very high caliber have been very diverse, as I mentioned before, so it’s been really, really productive time for us to be participating in this.”

Tanah Sullivan
carmen

“On the content-wise, I think things have changed over the last two years. So the topics that were touched upon about alternative financing I thought was really great to give it a rethink about how we should always be doing the right things, i.e. always aim to get profitable in good times and in bad times.

I think we have lost that message over the last couple of years, this is a great reminder and hopefully this will become the constant consideration for many companies.”

Carmen Yuen

“This conference is very unique, because people actually want to sit down and listen to all the speakers. But that’s because the level of speakers and the caliber of speakers that you guys have brought on here, actually have a lot of value, and have actually been giving tremendous insight into kind of where Indonesia is going to head in the next couple of years, particularly in terms of startup ecosystem, private equity ecosystem, venture capital ecosystem.

And so I think the amount of network that I’ve been able to just meet this well, what they’re well worth a trip here.”

Jin Oh
Pandu Patria Sjahrir

“There’s a lot of high quality speakers. And actually a very good topic. And good research by Joji in the beginning, I think this is a good way to start the year. I really do wish DealStreetAsia to always bring consistent, high quality product to market.”

Pandu Sjahrir
patrick walujo

“This is the first offline conference after the pandemic hit. So my expectation is that we are going to meet a lot of interesting people, exchange ideas with DealStreetAsia and I learned that there are 800 participants in this conference. I’m very pleased that this looks like a highly successful event.”

Patrick Walujo
Edward Tirtanata

“I get to see a lot of faces that I have not seen for three years. So, you know, beyond great topics that we are discussing the opportunity to network and see people. I think it’s, you know, once a year, literally.

Because no other event I think can make investor and founders as good as this DealStreetAsia conference.”

Edward Tirtanata
Donald Wihardja

“… looking around the attendance. It’s very good, who’s who is all here, and very appreciative that there are more and more of these kinds of events happening in Indonesia.”

Fireside Chat: Leveraging the soft power of tourism & creative economy to generate alpha

During the fireside chat, the minister will share his vision and perspectives on Leveraging the soft power of tourism & creative economy to generate alpha. This session will explore how investments in the soft infrastructure can boost the country’s GDP growth as well as generate multiples for investors and enterprises in the sector.

The minister will be in conversation with Eddi Danusaputro, who currently serves as the CEO of at BNI Ventures. He has over 20 years of experience in several sectors including financial services (Morgan Stanley, AXA, and Makara Capital), management consulting (Booz Allen Hamilton, and AT Kearney) and consumer goods (Procter & Gamble). Eddi also has experience in angel investing and social entrepreneurship.

Keynote address by Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno, Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Indonesia

At the helm of the ministry, Sandiaga Uno leads policy formulation and implementation in the areas related to tourism, the creative economy and the digital economy. The creative economy, which covers 17 sub-sectors such as arts, design, and game development to name a few, is touted as a key growth driver for sustainable development and fostering the small and medium enterprise ecosystem.

Uno assumed office in 2020 at the peak of the coronavirus pandemic that grounded the travel and tourism industry. His priority has been to develop sustainable tourism by using technology as well as tapping into the country’s rich culture and travel experience offering.

One of Indonesia’s most prominent entrepreneurs, Uno is the co-founder of PT Saratoga Investama Sedaya Tbk, the biggest publicly-listed investment company in the country. He served as a president director in the company from 2004 to 2015.

Uno was elected as vice governor of Jakarta in 2017 but resigned from the office to run as a candidate for the vice president of Indonesia, alongside his running mate Prabowo Subianto, in the 2019 election.

Uno completed his bachelor’s degree at Wichita State University in 1990 and his master’s degree at George Washington University in 1992. In 2016, he received the title of Distinguished Research Professor in Residence from George Washington University.

The evolving fintech landscape in Indonesia – Opportunities and challenges

The fintech landscape is fast emerging as an ecosystem play with the pandemic-induced accelerated digitalisation trends, opening up an array of opportunities that go way beyond the payments and allied spaces. Tech startups have been adopting the partnership or acquisition route, especially in the financial services and banking sphere, to expand their user base and access lower cost of funds. In this panel, we will explore the buildout of fintech ecosystems, super apps and newer monetisation models.

We feature Xendit co-founder and COO Tessa Wijaya, who is responsible for the overall business operations of the company, including service and support, partnerships, government, and public relations, as well as compliance. Tessa believes in changing the world at scale through technology. She is keen on building Indonesia and South East Asia’s digital infrastructure by providing the best payment solutions.

From the startup side, we also have Iwan Kurniawan, the co-founder and COO of Modalku, a digital lending and credit technology platform in SE Asia for micro, small and medium enterprises. Modalku is funded by leading investors Sequoia, Softbank Ventures Asia, LINE Ventures, Alpha JWC among others.

From the investors’ side, we have Dimitra Taslim, VP, GGV Capital, who invests in the areas of Web3, SMBTech, FoodTech, EdTech, and FinTech. We also have Sandeep Patil, Partner & Head of Asia, QED Investors. Patil has extensive experience in consumer internet and is a global veteran of the banking and financial services industry.

From the banking side, we have Dyota Marsudi currently serving as President Director at Bank Aladin, the first Islamic digital bank in Indonesia with the aim of opening and facilitating access to digital-based Islamic banking services.

The fintech session will be moderated by Dmitry Levit, founder of Cento Ventures, where he leads investment and fund activities in Southeast Asia.

Join this session to learn more about how the fintech piece fits in growing digital ecosystems.

ESG integration with business strategy key to long-term value creation

Indonesian companies and investment firms have been adopting environmental, social and governance (ESG) principles both in venture investing and building sustainable businesses. Several firms have beefed up their ESG team and initiated the release of annual sustainability reports. The region is also seeing corporations and venture capital funds raising dedicated funds and deploying capital in startups building solutions to tackle environmental problems.

ESG investing provides a strong framework for analysing companies beyond traditional financial metrics. What has also accelerated adoption is regulatory pressure on companies as well as a push from LPs for ESG-complaint investing. This panel will explore how investors and founders are seeing ESG adoption as a means to achieve long-term value as well as impact.

We feature Tanah Sullivan who leads ESG efforts across Gojek, GoTo Financial and Tokopedia. Before GoTo, Tanah was at the World Economic Forum in Switzerland, where she led partnerships for a range of sustainability-focused initiatives in ASEAN and globally.

Joining this panel is Utari Octavianty, co-founder & chief sustainability officer of Aruna, an integrated fisheries commerce startup focusing on improving the coastal village by creating a fair and transparent marine-fisheries trade through technology innovation.

From the investor’s side, we have East Ventures partner Avina Sugiarto who has over 12 years of experience in investing in alternative assets across technology, property, logistics, natural resources, to consumers and financial services. Avina leverages her extensive experience to invest in growth-stage technology companies and further drive sustainability and integration of ESG practices in East Ventures’ investments.

Join this panel to know more about how ESG can become mainstream.

Disintermediating Indonesia’s most traditional industries through tech

Some of Indonesia’s most traditional industries including agriculture, fisheries, real estate, construction tech, small retailers, financial services, trucking, to name a few, have undergone a sea change with technology intervention enabling streamlining of operations, benefiting the entire value chain.

In this panel, we are featuring five founders from startups who are disrupting the so-called traditional and mainstream sectors through technology.

As a fish farmer-turned-agriculture tech entrepreneur, eFishery founder and CEO Gibran Huzaifah is revolutionising the relatively untapped $9.4-billion Indonesian aquaculture market. eFishery provides end-to-end solutions for fish and shrimp farmers in Indonesia from smart farming technology, input, and access to financing, to the B2B market. In January 2022, eFishery raised $90 million in its Series C round co-led by Singapore state investor Temasek, SoftBank Vision Fund 2 and Sequoia Capital India.

Our next entrepreneur Dayu Dara Permata co-founded the Indonesian property platform Pinhome, which recently raised $50 million in its Series B round from Goodwater Capital, Intudo Ventures, Ribbit Capital and others. Pinhome connects potential buyers and renters with property owners and agents, making the process of buying, selling, and renting property easier.

Hear from Evermos co-founder and CEO Ghufron Mustaqim on the growing social commerce space. Mustaqim co-founded Evermos, a Sharia-compliant e-commerce platform that connects brands, resellers, and consumers. In 2021, Evermos raised $30 million in its Series B funding.  Home to more than 200 million Muslims, Indonesia is one of the world’s major markets for halal products.

Meet Social Bella Indonesia co-founder and President Christopher Madiam on his growth journey of building the startup into a leading integrated beauty technology company. Social Bella, known for its omnichannel commerce site Sociolla, recently raised over $60 million in a funding round led by Singapore state investor Temasek Holdings and L Catterton.

We also feature Qoala founder and CEO Harshet Lunani, who is seeking to revolutionise insurance through a combination of new product development supported by technology and digital-based claim processes and machine learning. Before building Qoala, Lunani founded and ran Kelola, a digital investment platform.

Pitra Harun, who will moderate the session, is a board observer for Asia Partners portfolio firms RedDoorz, Carsome, and GudangAda. Prior to Asia Partners, he served as a senior executive at Bukalapak, where he oversaw the company’s entire digital goods effort.

Gain founder perspectives across a wide range of sectors that are being powered by technology.

Harnessing tech for mega returns: Indonesia continues to be a strong VC play

Despite global challenges, SE Asia, especially Indonesia, continues to remain somewhat insulated because of macro trends such as an expanding middle class, a young and digitally-savvy population, global demand for commodity exports and a relatively stable political environment. The macro drivers coupled with accelerated digitalisation have made the region attractive for venture capital activity. However, challenges remain when it comes to fundraising, building scalable companies and delivering strong exits from the region.

We have a group of prolific investors from the region who will share their perspectives on how they are navigating the current market cycle.

Meet Jefrey Joe of Alpha JWC Ventures, an Indonesia-focused early-stage firm that raised $433 million for its third fund in the largest final close by a SE Asian VC firm in 2021. Jefrey Joe is a venture capitalist with tech, product and consulting background. He sits on the board of some of Indonesia’s fastest-growing startups, including Kopi Kenangan, Kredivo, and Lemonilo.

AC Ventures managing partner Helen Wong was ranked among the top 100 VCs in China and the top 25 female VCs in China by Forbes. Prior to joining AC Ventures, she was a Partner at Qiming Venture Partners, focusing on its internet and consumer sectors. Her successful exits include Mobike, LuoJiSiWei and Lagou. She led the firm’s SE Asian investment strategy and has invested in Akulaku (unicorn), and RedDoorz. Prior to Qiming, she was a founding member at GGV Capital for approximately 10 years in China and Silicon Valley.

Eddy Chan is a founding partner of “Indonesia-only” independent venture capital firm Intudo Ventures. Intudo’s portfolio companies include Xendit, Pintu, Pinhome, Halodoc, Kargo, PasarPolis, Nalagenetics, Populix, and more. Intudo closed its third fund at $144 million.

Karan has 18 years of global experience with over 11 years in technology-focused venture investing. At B Capital, Karan Mohla leads early-stage investments in India & South-East Asia.  B Capital Group this year closed its $250-million early-stage Ascent Fund II, which seeks to invest in pre-seed to Series A rounds globally.

Join this insightful session on the case for venture capital in Indonesia.

Indonesia is on road to becoming EV hub but challenges persist

Indonesia’s nascent domestic electric vehicle [EV] industry is showing promise given the government’s intent to push investments and development in the sector to achieve a reduction in carbon emission targets. What is seen as accelerating EV sector development is the growth potential in the two-wheeler segment and increased adoption by ride-hailing and delivery giants as they seek to electrify their fleets. Indonesia is also intent on taking advantage of its large reserves of nickel to become a global hub for electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing and exports.

This panel features Indonesian deputy minister Rachmat Kaimuddin who will shed light on the efforts made to attract investments and develop the EV ecosystem in Indonesia.

From the EV industry side, we have Patrick Adhiatmadja, managing director, Electrum – a JV between GoTo and TBS Energi Utama. Electrum is targeting to start producing electric motorcycles in 2024. Hear from Purbaja Pantja, director & chief investment officer, Indika Energy [Alva One] on the firm’s vision to become an electric mobility champion and reshape sustainability. We will also feature Irwan Tjahaja, founder and CEO of Swap Energi, a startup that offers battery-swapping solutions for electric vehicles. In 2021, Swap launched its electric motorcycle brand called Smoot.

We also have Rigel Capital partner Nirmal Rajaram, who is an experienced senior management executive with a 17-year professional experience across enterprise risk management, corporate finance, industrial and business process restructuring, energy efficiency management, and leadership skills in scaling and turning around the businesses.

Join this panel to learn more about the opportunities and challenges to EV adoption in Indonesia and the road ahead.

Consumption theme holds strong despite economic headwinds

Despite global uncertainty, Indonesia’s economic outlook remains strong thanks to its domestic demand driving growth. With a population of over 260 million and a growing middle class, Indonesia is the largest consumer market in SE Asia. Once known as an investment destination largely for natural resources and commodities, Indonesia has steadily been seeing growing interest in the consumer space that has not been left behind by digitalisation trends. As more and more consumers access products and services online, following the pandemic-induced consumer behaviour shift, newer models and blended channels are emerging to capture growth. Our panelists are at the forefront of the new consumption trends playing out in Indonesia.

Meet Deepak I Shahdadpuri, who set up DSG Consumer Partners in 2012 to invest in  consumer-focused companies in India and Southeast Asia. DSG has invested in the restaurant booking app Chope, grocery e-mart Redmart, plant-based frozen food chain Kind Kones, and gummy vitamin brand YOUVIT, among others.

We also have Eric J. Kim, co-founder and managing partner, Goodwater Capital, which has invested in leading consumer internet companies such as Coupang, Xendit, Viva Republica (Toss), MoMo, and EverlyWell.

From the founders’ side, the panel will feature Edward Tirtanata, co-founder and CEO of the Indonesian grab-and-go coffee chain Kopi Kenangan. Established in 2017, Kopi Kenangan entered the unicorn club last year after it raised $96 million in Series C funding.

Brand aggregator Hypefast founder Achmad Alkatiri will speak about building and scaling up digital native fashion, beauty, health and lifestyle brands across Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand.

We also feature Rama Suparta, the co-founder of SATURDAYS, an online-first DTC eyewear brand. The firm also operates brick-and-mortar locations in top-tier Indonesian malls.

Join this session to stay on top of Indonesia’s consumption space.

Alternative capital sources and structures gain steam amid funding winter

The global macro environment and stock selloff have started to severely impact the tech startup ecosystem as investors exercise caution. As growth-stage tech companies grapple with fundraising challenges, valuation resets and down rounds, the market seems ripe for alternative financing options. Companies are resorting to new instruments such as convertible notes, venture debt, pure debt, or bridge rounds to survive the storm. In this session, we will explore the growing appetite for new capital streams and also structures such as secondary financing, preferred equity, warrants, anti-dilution clauses and liquidation preferences.

We have put together a cross-section of panelists who bring deep expertise across various financing avenues to share their insights on new funding trends at play.

MDI Ventures CEO Donald Wihardja has over 20 years of experience and a track record of running and managing technology companies and tech investments. As CEO of MDI Ventures, Telkom Group’s corporate VC unit, he seeks to not only deliver capital gains on investments but foster innovation in the startup ecosystem.

We also have Jessica Huang Pouleur, partner at Openspace Ventures, where she leads the mid-stage growth fund OSV+. She has over 14 years of growth- and late-stage investment and corporate strategy experience across Asia Pacific. She was previously leading the investment team in Southeast Asia for Providence Equity Partners.

Innoven Capital SEA partner Paul Ong brings more than a decade of experience in corporate debt origination and structuring in Southeast Asia. He led more than 30 venture debt investments across the region to companies such as Ruangguru, Tiki, Akulaku and eFishery.

Joshua Augusta represents Vertex Ventures SE Asia and India, a prolific investor in Indonesia having backed homegrown startups including HappyFresh, Aruna, and TaniHub.

And, Fandy Cendrajaya manages Kopital Network, an angel investor network of startup founders and executives to help new Indonesian founders with funding and expert advice.

Join this panel to know whether this trend will trigger a long-term shift in venture capital play.

Fireside chat: Why Indonesia is ripe for a long-term investment boom

In this fireside chat, Indonesia’s vice-minister of health Prof. Dr. Dante Saksono Harbuwono will share his perspective on how Indonesia is ripe for long-term investments across various sectors, including healthcare.

Indonesia is riding on favourable macro drivers including demographics, rising middle class, domestic consumption-led growth that make it a favourable destination for capital allocations and promise to generate great multiples for investors. The pandemic-induced accelerated digital adoption has expanded the market potential further.

This session will explore the various sectors in Indonesia that are ripe for technology, innovation and investments.

The vice-minister will be in conversation with Pandu Sjahrir, who is one of Southeast Asia’s leading investors in the seed and early growth stages. John Riady helms Lippo Karawaci and Siloam International Hospitals, respectively the largest real estate and hospitals company in Indonesia. He is also executive director at Lippo Group and is an active investor in the Southeast Asia technology sector. The Lippo Group is often seen as a proxy for the Indonesian economy. Its interests in various verticals — real estate, private healthcare, and tech investments — place it at the centre of SE Asia’s largest economy.

As Lippo CEO, John Riady has focused on concentrating on the sweet spots in real estate and healthcare businesses. He is betting on macro drivers like urbanisation and demographics, as well as the digitalisation of healthcare to spur growth at the group’s businesses.
