Building healthcare solutions for a post-pandemic India

15 November 2021 | 2pm SGT (11:30am IST)

The idea

While even the most developed countries in the world have been impacted in unforeseeable ways by successive waves of the COVID-19 pandemic, the impact on countries like India have exposed many systemic flaws. The low penetration level of insurance and meagre budgetary allocations to healthcare as a proportion of GDP all came to a head, particularly during the second wave of the pandemic earlier this year.

It has changed how people in India, and indeed in several countries struggling with similar problems across the region, view healthcare. There’s expected to be an uptick in insurance. But there’s also a need to go beyond insurance.

It is amply clear that contemporary health and financial solutions were designed with a simpler, less technologically advanced world in mind. And that millions of people across the continent need solutions and treatments that remain out of the grasp of even those willing and able to pay, thanks to prevailing industry structures.

In a lively discussion organised by DealStreetAsia and Kenko Health, we will explore how private capital driven interventions can potentially address these need gaps, by modifying business models or building them from ground up.

The panel will consist of practitioners as well as leading investors working towards expanding the remit of healthcare solutions and the way they can be accessed by a large target audience across the region.
