His Excellency Budi Gunadi Sadikin was named Indonesia’s health minister in December 2020 at the peak of the coronavirus pandemic when he was tasked with the enormous responsibility of prevention and mitigation strategies. The former banker is a big advocate of the power of technology and innovation in improving access to reliable, affordable and effective healthcare solutions for Indonesia’s 280-million-strong population.
Prior to taking charge as health minister, Budi Gunadi Sadikin served as president of Bank Mandiri from 2013 to 2016 followed by the role of senior advisor to the minister of state-owned enterprises.
A nuclear science graduate from the Bandung Institute of Technology, Budi Gunadi Sadikin started his career in 1988 as an information technology officer at IBM Asia-Pacific in Tokyo and later joined PT Bank Bali. Subsequently, he served as director of consumer and commercial banking for ABN AMRO Bank Indonesia & Malaysia. He has also served stints at Bank Danamon and Adira Quantum Multi Finance.
